Here is my latest painting, to be uploaded to the Rogue Gene Gallery website today. It is a smaller version of my “A Bit Of….” series, and this particular one also comes with a matching wooden easel. Measuring 16 x 12 cm, it would stand on a shelf or book-case easily. “A Little Bit Of Red” can be bought directly from my gallery page on the Rogue Gene Gallery website here. Painted in a host of red hues in acrylic.
To change or not to change….
…my ‘artist’ name after recently getting re-married, was the question. After much deliberation I decided to go for it – a fresh start and because, let’s face it, I had had such a long break from regular painting that I didn’t think it would really confuse anyone. Most people would be saying ‘Kosana who?’ by now, so I figured a new name would encourage me to pick up the brushes and start afresh with a new series of landscapes, the first of which I completed this week:
My next piece is another atmospheric landscape (I hope!), with the reference material kindly supplied by my RGG colleague, Mike Finley. The painting will be based on his photo, not a direct copy – I was drawn to it by the amazing contrast of colours which is the kind of work I like to produce – extremes of light and dark and/or a vibrant colour palette.
So, watch this space…I’m on a roll now!
New work for craft fair
I’ve been busily preparing some new work for my first craft fair of this year – with a few different items to sell this time. I’m hoping that most of them sell well, but you can never tell really! I’ve painted some wooden toy yo-yos for children – or adults to buy, and decorated two wooden trinket boxes with decopatch paper, which is very popular at the moment. I’ve painted a third trinket box, a mini canvas painting with easel and am still in the process of painting another mini wardrobe trinket box. Oh, there are several more hand-made mini notebooks to take, as well. They are so cute and will be on offer with a free mini pencil.
The fair is at the Club House Community Centre in Elm Avenue, East Hull. This is an area I know very well since I grew up in East Hull and had school-friends who lived in the area known as Garden Village. In fact, my aunt lives just a hop, skip and a jump away so no doubt I will be popping over to hers for a cup of tea at some point! The fair is being held to raise money for Dove House Hospice, which is a local charity who give respite care to people in the community with life limiting illnesses such as cancer. I regularly donate to them throughout the year, so it’s nice to be part of an extra fund-raising event for them. To be held on March 18th, from 10am to 3pm, we’re hoping lots of Mothers will be there, shopping with their very generous offspring!

Etsy shop updated
I’ve recently added some more works to my Etsy Shop (Arty Aitch) which has been neglected lately due to Christmas and the production I was involved in at our local amdram society in January. Doing tasks like this always seems to take longer than I anticipate. I started taking the photographs of each item yesterday morning. Then I uploaded them onto the PC, saved each image as a both hi-res one in my art folder and a “save for web” sized image for uploading on-line (which I save into a separate folder on my PC). Naming each image relevant to how I perceive it probably makes the job longer, but I find it’s easier to locate if I give appropriate file-names to my images.
I then spent much of the afternoon writing up the details of each item for the description as I entered it into my shop. I find this sort of thing a real slog, so maybe that’s why it takes so long, but I’m glad to say that now I do at least have all my mini paintings photographed and in my Etsy shop – and I have created a document listing them all on my PC too, so I can keep track of where they are if I use them for a Craft Fair or sell any etc.
Here are a few of the mini paintings I’ve just uploaded:
